Predators blank Kings

Hockey Betting Lines

12/24/2006 - Nashville, TN (The Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jason Arnott, J.P. Dumont and David Legwand each scored twice and Chris Mason stopped 34 shots to record his sixth career shutout as the Nashville Predators defeated the Los Angeles Kings 7-0 at Gaylord Entertainment Center.

The effort marked Nashville's largest margin of victory at home this season and their fourth straight win against Los Angeles on home ice.

"I think the guys did an awesome job of breaking up their plays," said Mason. "Greg Zanon did an awesome job of blocking shots. He always does, and being a goalie you really appreciate those plays. It was nice not to let in any goals after letting in five in two periods the last game (against Buffalo). The main thing is winning. Winning 7-0 and (getting) a shutout is secondary to a win, but we'll take it."

Dumont also had two helpers, while Legwand had one and Paul Kariya had a goal and an assist for the Predators, who have won four of their last five games. Three of their seven goals scored on the night came during the power play.

Dan Cloutier allowed six goals on 27 shots before being replaced by Barry Brust in the third period. Brust made 12 stops while allowing Nashville's final tally as the Kings dropped their fourth straight game.

Arnott opened the scoring just 5:45 into the contest. Steve Sullivan started the play by carrying the puck up the boards and sending a backhand shot toward the net. The puck hit Cloutier then went up over his shoulder and landed behind him in the crease, where Arnott quickly poked it in for the 1-0 lead.

After on unsuccessful penalty shot at 10:26, Kariya finally lit the lamp at 14:22. Legwand started the play by dropping the puck to Alexander Radulov on a Nashville rush and Radulov rifled a hard shot from the left circle. Cloutier made a kick save, but left the rebound out in front for Kariya, who sent a high shot toward the net that eluded the sprawling netminder.

The Predators followed up by lighting the lamp four times in the second stanza.

Legwand used another penalty shot opportunity, Nashville's second of the game, to send a wrist shot through the five-hole of Cloutier at 4:35. Arnott followed up with a power play marker at 9:45, as he unleashed a 38-foot slapshot from inside the blueline that sailed past Cloutier to give Nashville a 4-0 cushion.

Dumont contributed his first goal of the contest six minutes later, then added another tally with six seconds left in the period to stake his team to a 6-0 lead.

Legwand capped the scoring at 5:14 in the third period.

The final stanza also featured a brawl, as Cloutier was called for spearing, roughing and assessed a game misconduct 41 seconds in.

LaDainian Tomlinson Favorite to be 2007 NFL MVP

With the first NFL preseason game less than two weeks away, it is time to start thinking about football once again at MySportsbook.com. Reigning NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson is currently the 5-1 co-favorite to win the award again alongside Super Bowl MVP Peyton Manning.

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone after his all out assault on the record books last season. For those suffering from amnesia or were under a rock last football season, all L.T. did last season was set the NFL record for rushing touchdowns (28), total touchdowns (31) and total points scored (186) to go along with his 1815 rushing yards and 508 receiving yards. At 6-1, Tom Brady is next in line which isn’t surprising considering all of the firepower the Pats added over the off-season. With the addition of Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth and Wes Welker; it would be quite difficult for Brady’s numbers not to improve from last years 3529 yards and 24 touchdowns. There appears to be some decent value in Drew Bees at 10-1 considering he probably would have won the award last year if it wasn’t for L.T.’s record breaking season.

There is no reason to think the Saints will come back to earth this season and playing in a weak NFC, they should have as good a shot as any to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. At 15-1, Donovan McNabb could also be worth a look. Remember, many felt he was the MVP of the first half of the season before going down with a season ending injury. Reportedly, he is in great shape and well ahead of schedule to return to form. Also, he could have some added motivation to put up big numbers this season with the Eagles using their first pick in the draft on McNabb’s future successor Kevin Kolb.
